Groenland kommt auf die Kurzwelle zurueck. Kalaallit Nunaata Radioa kann
wie folgt gehoert werden : 3812 kHz USB. Der Sender in Tasiilaq hat
eine Leistung von nur 100 W.

Hallo,

GREENLAND. "KNR [Kalaallit Nunaata Radioa] is back on SW." Daily nx prgms are carried on 3812U with 100 watts at 1130-1230 and 1800-2000 local
time in Nuuk [aka Godthab--JB] (1330-1430 and 2000-2200 UTC when DST is
observed [Mar 6 to Oct 26--JB], and 1430-1530 and 2100-2300 when standard
time is in use). The xmsns are unofficial but are quite regularly hrd,
esp. during summer. Xmtr site is Tasiilaq on the east coast of Greenland,
and rpts indicate that the xmsns can be monitored on the west coast of
Greenland. "Real" SW xmsns may start again in Greenland. For some 10 yrs. the authorities have been considering closing down the current five 5-10 kw
xmtrs; indications are that very few listen to the MW xmtrs, as all
inhabited areas are now covered with FM and because audio quality is poor
on most of the xmtrs (they utilize the same very narrow bandwidth of 4.5
kHz as in Denmark). Besides, electricity is very expensive. Calculations and considerations have been made to replace these five MW xmtrs with one
SW on the island of Cook, not far from Nuuk. That would be a more
efficient way to serve the fishermen who are, more or less, the only ones
still listening to AM. Cook Island was also the site of the old KNR SW
xmtrs using 3999, 5980 and 9575 several years ago. When, or if, a new
official SW stn comes into use again, a fqy in the 3-5 MHz range is likely.
