Don’t think I’ll be tuning my Perseus to satellite signals anytime soon…

Good day. I received this from DW this morning.

You are absolutely right: English and French are no longer on Shortwave.
Both languages will only be available in FM in Africa. Sorry to tell you
this. But this decission was made by our management.

Reminds me of the cartoon where a bunch of fat-cat board-of-director types
on the top deck of an old rowing ship are complaining 'we keep cutting back
and cutting back, and yet we don't seem to be moving forward any faster' as
a sole guy with two oars is trying to power the whole boat. ....

I am quite certain that if you turn off the transmitters, nobody will listen
to your signal. But that isn't the proof you think it is. Sigh, I'm
preaching to the choir here though, aren't I?

On a more positive note, DW and Saudi Arabia and many others do STILL
broadcast on Free to Air satellite, most with both audio (radio) service AND
TV service. DW TV in English can be found 24/7 in most all of North America
on the SES-3 satellite (in orbit at 103°W).
Look for them there on 4.140 GHz-Vertical polarization, 30000 Msps.

The 'service ID' is 0008 and they broadcast with 720p-HD using 8PSK
modulation/H.264 compression so any "MPEG-2" compliant FTA receiver will get
them if your dish is capable of C band reception. If the BBC WS were
available for free I'd be even more excited, but there are still lots of
'FTA' signals that don't require Internet or a 'pay' service!
