Shortwave Radiogram transmits digital text and images on an analog
shortwave broadcast transmitter. The program is produced and presented
by Dr. Kim Andrew Elliott.
Shortwave Radiogram, 14-20 November 2025 (program 426): Digital modes
that take the bus
!! There is a Shortwave Radiogram transmission schedule change this week.
WRMI has found a customer (a radio program about amateur radio and
shortwave) for its Sunday 0900 UTC slot on 7780 kHz.
But Jeff White found a place for Shortwave Radiogram on 7780:
Thursday 0930-1000 UTC. This change is included in the transmission
schedule below.
I know that 0930 UTC is an inconvenient time for listeners in North
America, but it might be worth unattended decoding: Leave radio and
Fldigi on all night, and preferably also a recording device, in case an
RSID does not automatically change modes.
This 0930 UTC transmission is almost always heard well in New Zealand.

Chris Fink's weekly Echos in the Ether hour on WRMI has two new airings:
0900 UTC Sunday on 7780 kHz to Australia and New Zealand, and (ersetzt
SWRG)
2100 UTC Sunday on 15770 kHz to Europe.
The shortwave-oriented program is also broadcast to North America each
week at
0000 UTC Sunday on 9455 kHz, and
11:00 pm Friday Eastern Time on 5950 kHz.

Winter DX, Aurora Magic, 6-Meter Surprises and Shortwave Listening 101
Welcome new listeners on 15770 KHz at 2100 UTC in Europe and Asia and to
listeners in Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific on 7780 KHz
at 0090 UTC! {0900z}
This week’s broadcast was a full hour of radio science, real-world
propagation events, practical receiving tips, and hands-on advice for
listeners who want to get more out of the HF and VHF spectrum.
We covered a lot of ground, and if you missed the show, here are the
highlights.

🌌 Winter DX Season, Aurora Activity and That Massive 6-Meter Opening
The first half of the program focused on the incredibly active
ionospheric conditions we experienced this week:
• Two nights of strong auroras
Tuesday and Wednesday brought visible aurora across much of the United
States. These events don’t just make the sky glow - they shake up the
ionosphere, alter propagation paths, and sometimes set the stage for
rare openings.
• The unbelievable Thursday 6-meter path into Australia
Listeners across the central U.S. reported reliable FT8 decodes from VK
land - a rare F2-layer event during a strongly energized ionosphere. We
broke down:
Why it happened
How F2-layer events work
How to monitor for the next one
What tools and antennas help you catch these openings
