Last year, Radio Slovakia International received over SKK 71 million
including 46 million allocated for the short wave txs. Unlike previous
years, the Slovak Radio does not have its own budgetary chapter, which used
to include means for Radio Slovakia International. According to a new law
this sce should be financed by a state order. According to the director
general of Slovak Radio, the situation in neighbouring countries shows that
when the state is interested in such a sce, it allocates the money into the
budget of the Foreign Ministry.

Today there are about 150.000 listeners of Radio Slovakia International
worldwide. If the Slovak Radio stopped its international broadcast on short
waves, there would be about 20.000 left to tune in via the Internet and
