73 wb

** SURINAME. 4990, R. Apintie, 0433-0502, Feb. 6, Dutch/English, Pop
ballads in English, several by Lionel Ritchie, right thru top-of-hour,
ad/music promo block from 0447-0450 in Dutch. Good signal tho no ID
noted (Scott R. Barbour, Jr., Intervale, NH, USA, R75, MLB-1, RS
longwire with RBA balun, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

4989.98, R. Apintie, 4 Feb 1003-1020, M mentioned telefoon and
internationaal, 1004 music started, then canned (presumed) ads with
singing by W. 1006 discussion. 1015 presumed program outro, then
canned promo by W and M with clear ID. Talk by M over instrumental
music mentioning Surinam. 1019 short ID jingle by M, more canned
announcements. Pretty good signal at tune-in, but dropped
down almost immediately (Dave Valko, Dunlo PA, Cumbredx mailing list
via DXLD)

** SURINAME. Re: Is it still being heard? (gh, DXLD)

I logged what I believed was R. Apintie (playing indigenous music) at
4990.0 on 12.22.03 at 0553Z. It seemed to have been a very good
evening and early morning, with many new catches in the prior five or
six hours ranging from Pakistan to the best I had ever heard R. Cima
(Santo Domingo, Dom. Rep): I had logged it playing Spanish music at
0727, and noted "superb". A great propagation experience and one of
the best nights of the winter. Best, (Steve Waldee - retired b'cast
engineer, San José, CA, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SURINAM. Radio Apintie introduced the usage of a new 1 kW shortwave
transmitter on December 12. The antenna is a six element log periodic
beamed south at half power, 500 watts. Bob states that he QSLed the
old transmitter on two different channels, 4850 & 4996 kHz. The new
channel is 4900 kHz (Bob Padula, AWR Wavescan Feb 8 via John Norfolk,
DXLD)

As usual, no credits; I think the bit about the 6-element log periodic
came from only one reporter, as previously published and credited in
DXLD. Don`t you believe 4900 --- it`s 4990, tho I have not seen any
reports of it lately. Is it still being heard? (gh, DXLD)

SURINAM Radio Apintie 4990 kHz. E-mail-QSL in 2 days for an e-mail
report. V/s Charles Vervuurt, Director. Snail mail adress:
Radio Apintie Televisie, P.O.Box 595, Verlengde Gemenelandsweg #37,
Paramaribo, Suriname. E-mail: <Apintie@xxxxxx>
Phone: 597-400450 Fax: 597-400684. (Claes Olsson-USA, Cumbre Jan 4)
[their new 1 kW unit make it, also heard here in Europe recently. ed.]
