Braucht's das auch noch? - wb

Satellite radio in Europe came closer this month when Germany approved an
application by WorldSpace to built terrestrial repeaters for the service it
plans to launch in 2009. The licence has been granted by the
Bundesnetzagentur (Federal Network Agency) for nationwide use of 12.5 MHz of
spectrum in the L-band and will enable WorldSpace to provide a hybrid
satellite/terrestrial radio service to mobile receivers across the country.

The German development follows the granting of similar licences in
Switzerland and Italy.

WorldSpace will be hoping that Europe's largest car market - where some
3.4million cars are sold annually - will drive the success of its European
satellite radio product. The company says that it's in discussion with a
number of potential strategic partners who have an interest in the German
radio market.
