   Hello, Herman
There are presently many brands of of mp3 recorders with SD-cards (I use a generous 8 Gb SD card) and with a line input plus "line in microphone inputs". The latter is in practise also a line in (it records by line directly from the rx, not necessarily by a microphone).
I have for some years now used a Tascam DR-1 mp3 recorder, which is
excellent, noiseless and problemless for a DX-er (I use it through "Mic 1" -input, because you can there control the volume levels, which is not the case through the "line in" proper). But the Tascam DR-series also has newer models. The newest models have a metal casing. Tascam DR has many special features which are very useful for a DX:er. There are others, too, like the Olympus models.

Hi all,

Having a receiver (Kenwood R-5000) which is only used with all computers turned off, I still use an old tape recorder to make recordings. However, digitalizing recorded pieces is a nuisance to say the least.

As the new DX season is rapidly approaching, I am looking for advice on alternative recording equipment.

I was thinking of an mp3 recording device, but most mp3 recording devices I found on the internet do not have a line in, only a built-in microphone.

Does anyone have any idea on a good (and please, not expensive) recorder that I could purchase and use?

It needs to have a line in and must also be able connect to the computer to transfer recorded files onto it.

Thanks in advance!
