In diesem Zusammenhang ein Blick auf zwei Programme, die bei mir seit 20
Jahren (und mehr) in Verwendung sind:

mp3DirectCut ist ein Audioeditor für Windows, der es ermöglicht, Dateien
im MP3- und AAC-Format direkt zu bearbeiten, ohne sie neu zu kodieren.
mp3DirectCut ändert nicht die Frames selbst, daher ist die Genauigkeit
der Bearbeitung auf die Länge eines MP3-Frames von 1/38 s beschränkt.
Dafür verschlechtert sich die Qualität durch das sonst nötige
Reenkodieren der Audiodatei nicht. Bei Pegeländerungen wie Ein- oder
Ausblenden wird in den Frames nur das Feld global gain verändert, die
Genauigkeit ist hierbei auf Schritte von 1,5 Dezibel beschränkt.
mp3DirectCut wird als Freeware zum Download angeboten. Über WINE kann
das Programm auch unter Linux verwendet werden.[2]
Das Programm beinhaltet auch einen Tag-Editor, jedoch nur für ID3v1- und
nicht für ID3v2-Tags.

mp3DirectCut is a frame based editor for MPEG audio (Layers 2 and 3) and
AAC (LC). Frame based means: Instead of PCM samples it works on the
encoded frame structure. Each frame keeps a number of samples. You can
cut, copy, paste, trim, append and for MP3 also change level and fade
without re-encoding. This makes mp3DirectCut very fast and prevents loss
of audio quality. The program provides easiest navigation even on large
files (up to 4GB) and gives you a very fast visualisation of the
compressed audio data. It can handle Cue sheets allowing to split a file
at cue positions. Additionally you can directly record and encode MP3
from your audio input devices.
