ECUADOR. HCJB: On Apr 15 DXPL, Allen Graham informed his listeners
that on May 6, 2006, all EG prgmng from HCJB in Quito will come to an
end. He later mentioned that there are only three opportunities left to
hear the DXPL prgm from the Pifo, Ecuador xmtrs. Very sad news! The DXPL had been hrd from HCJB-Quito since 1961. Many of us hope to hear the DXPL
for a long time to come via HCJB-OZ, WWCR, or through internet
streaming. They ment. plans to have special prgmng on May 6 commemorating the event, just shy of HCJB's 75th anniversary, coming up this Christmas. (Vosmeier, DXLD via BDXC-UK) But, per the prgm, the decision as to whether DXPL will continue at all, at least in EG (there is also a SP version), has
not yet been made. Daily HCJB EG xmsns of 2-1/2 hrs. have not brought a
lot of response. They have gotten more response to their "EG as a 2d
lang." work, of which they will be doing more via their SP outlets. The
catalyst for this decision has been the loss of more of their producers,
incl. most recently Jeff Ingram, who is going to HCJB-OZ. He coordinated much of the EG prgmng. They are still looking at the options re how they
can continue on SW after the Pifo closing, and they have to decide "how
much" SW they can do in the future. So the last EG SWBC from HCJB-Quito
will be at 1330 UTC, May 6, presumably meaning the end of the 1100-1330
prgm on 12005 and 21455. It sounds to me like "the end is near" for all
HCJB SW from Quito. (JB)
