Das erklärt so einiges, warum der AFN 873 kHz Sender im Fernbereich seit 15 
Jahren solch ein verkorkstes Signal produziert. Man produziert "heisse Luft" 
und bringt sie nicht recht über die Antenne - reine Verstümmelung. Das 
Signal hält jetzt überhaupt keinen Vergleich mit den 50ziger bis 80ziger 
Jahren aus. Dazu kam noch der Blitzeinschlag vor 5 Jahren dazu. Eine 
Betreuung durch xBundespost/T-systems Ingenieure wäre dem AFN zu wünschen.

Ben Dawson ist "der" Durchblicker bei IBB in den USA, welcher auch die 
Anlagen Kavalla, Zypern, Djibouti, CIS/TJK, Poro-PHL, Okinawa, SAO, Kuwait, 
UAE, usw. betreut[e].

Frankfurt AFN: The 873 AFN 150 kW facility has not operated with the proper
antenna pattern for the past 12 or 15 years after an ill-advised attempt to
replace the power divider system. In 2006 Tom King (president of Kintronic
Laboratories) and I inspected the site, and recommended that the feed system
be modified and replaced, with the new system using coaxial line and having
the power division/phasing at the center tower rather than in the
transmitter building.

I believe that this is the work now underway, conducted by a local
contractor if my information is correct. It's a pretty extensive effort, and
will require substantial periods of temporary operation, probably
omni-directionally using different towers as the work progresses. The
transmitter in service is a 150 kW Nautel consisting of three 50 kW units
combined.
