Es gibt Stimmen im Äther, die vergisst man sein Leben lang nicht, wie der
sonore, aber pedantische Gordon Bennett mit seinen monatlichen MW Tips, 
Willis Conover mit der VOA Jazz Hour
oder auch Wolfgang Behrendt vom RIAS / WDR.

Das war eine Meldung aus dem Oktober 1994, als der schwindsüchtige 8 kW
7230 kHz Sender bei AWR Forli geschlossen wurde.

Schon im November 1994 wechselte das AWR Progamm nach Rimavska Sobota in der
Slovakischen Republik.

Und es gabe eine Ankündigung für Januar 1995:

New DX Program begins in January 1995.
AWR - Adventist World Radio - announces that a new DX program will be
launched at the beginning of January. The new program will be known as
WORLDSCAN, and it will replace all DX programs currently on the air from
the different AWR stations. The new Worldscan will be heard on most of the
shortwave stations in the AWR international network, as well as from WRMI
in Florida and HRJA in Honduras.

Over the years there have been several DX programs written and produced at
different locations and it is planned to centralize this function.
Initially, the new Worldscan will be a 15 minute program written by Dr.
Adrian Peterson in Indianapolis and producedat regional locations fro
broadcast worldwide. However, whenever the logistics can be achieved, it
is intended that Worldscan will be increased to a half hour duration and
pre-recorded for network broadcast.

The new Worldscan will contain uptodate features and information from the
international radio scene as well as current DX news. The European
edition, which will be 25 minutes in duration, will still feature DX
information from the noted European DXers, Finn Krone-DEN and Gordon
Bennett-GB.
The launching date for Worldscan over AWR Europe will be Jan 15th.

A specially endorsed QSL card will be available for all reception reports
dated Jan til March 1995. These reports should be sent, with appropriate
return postage where possible: WORLDSCAN, Box 29235, Indianapolis 46229,
U.S.A.

In der einen oder anderen Form (zumindest über KSDA und WRMI) hat dieses
Hobby Programm bis heute bestanden.

R.I.P. Charles Gordon Bennett.

As you will see below, Charles (Gordon) Bennett sadly passed away
recently. He was a longtime member of several DX clubs, including the
British DX Club, and, of course, a familiar voice on AWR's DX progrme. A
sad loss indeed to the hobby. (BDXC-UK)

We were saddened to learn of the death of well known DXer and long time
BDXC-UK member, Gordon Bennett on 1st February 2003. Through his technical
expertise, Gordon had written many valuable articles and in-depth hands-on
receiver reviews for "Communication" and other radio magazines over the
years. His voice also became well known over the airwaves of Adventist
World R through his regular monthly MW Nx slot on their DX progrme. He
encouraged and advised many newcomers to DXing, although he had become
less active in the hobby through ill health in recent years. We have sent
our sincere condolences to his widow Monica and daughter in Bramhall,
Cheshire at this sad time.

Remember on many of his regular Mediumwave special progrs via AWR DX
progr, bc every first Sunday of the months, since the seventies,
transmitted via different relays during the decades like via Juelich,
Andorra, Forli-Italy and Rimavska Sobota sites. Especially the historical
radio reports of pre-WWII time and following decades, and his very special
voice to explain complicated descriptions in a pedantic way kept still in

Außer „Radio Monitors International” gab es in den 80er und 90er Jahren
weitere Programme für Radio-Hobbyisten: So verbreitete AWR-Europe weiter
die „World DX News” über den Kurzwellensender Sines in Portugal. Ein
anderes Programm war „DX Asiawaves”, das von Greg Scott zusammengestellt
und über KSDA auf der Pazifikinsel Guam ausgestrahlt wurde. Seit dem
Start von „Wavescan” wurden diese Sendungen jedoch eingestellt. (AWR
hatte auch noch ein italienisches Hobbyprogramm namens „Radio Magazine”,
das seit 1987 existierte und von Dario Villani erstellt wurde)

Eine Reihe von Hörerclubs und Einzelpersonen beteiligen sich an
„Wavescan” mit eigenen Programmsegmenten. Es sind dies unter anderem
William Matthews aus der Stadt Columbus im Bundesstaat Ohio mit den
beiden Segmenten „Global DX Report” und „North American DX Report”, Jose
Jacob aus Indien mit dem „Asian DX Report”, Paul Ormandy aus Neuseeland
mit dem „South Pacific DX Report” und Gordon Bennett mit dem monatlichen
„Mediumwave DX Report”.
